Why the Directory Exists
Printed directories are only one part of Union County research. Ownership records are kept through Tax Administration and the Register of Deeds, while public registration records are governed by North Carolina law. The Dickerson Genealogy & Local History Room and state-level collections preserve the historical layer. The directory brings those separate routes, their access limits, and their official contacts into one place for a name, street, or former address search.
What the Reference Includes
- Search paths: the street directory for address-led records, the city directory for historical volumes, and the resident lookup for a one-person trail
- Custodians: Tax Administration, the Register of Deeds, the Board of Elections, the Clerk, vital-record offices, and local-history collections
- Research methods: parcel-to-deed checks, public registration limits, directory-entry reading, and household tracing across dated sources
- Access context: the North Carolina Public Records Law, office fallbacks, and record-specific confidentiality limits
Limits of This Reference
This is a privately operated reference, not a Union County office, state agency, court, or library service. Important limits remain:
- We cannot confirm whether a specific person currently lives in Union County
- We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
- We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
- We cannot guarantee that every link, coverage year, office practice, or fee remains current
Only the responsible custodian can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found through this reference may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
